Sadly, I'm part of a whining generation, "I'm in debt," "I'm unemployed," "I have 5 kids and I can't feed them." Well, get a job, move if you have to, live within your means, and don't have so many kids. Yes, it's not fair that corporations and banks bailed out by taxpayers profit and CEOs collect huge bonuses while everyone else loses their jobs, homes, and savings BUT HOW IS HOLDING A SLUMBER PARTY HELPING? If you want change, act toward a solution. Write to your senators and reps, create a petition, vote on laws to change the system! What about withdrawing your money from big banks and boycott these corporations by investing in local credit unions and small business. Or rock the power system by voting on laws that guarantee equal access to all presidential candidates for presidential debates, ballot name printing, and campaigning rules. The laws in place right now for these are completely biased and ridiculous. Why? Because Republicans and Democrats wrote them (with their parties in mind).
It may feel good to join the "Occupy" protests and empathize with other complainers but how is it changing anything? Holding signs, yelling out opinions, rallying a bunch of Americans together to do...... what? It's all talk and no action. And my Facebook news feed, wow is it depressing! My twenty-something friends are always writing about how hard their life is, how life after school is unfair, how they wake up too early for a job they hate. What happened to "Do what you love, love what you do."
I'm not saying I'm perfect, I complain every now and then about how life is unfair, but if you want something badly enough, you make it happen. I had a dream once that I could make a positive difference in the world, and with sacrifice and hard work, I'm making it a reality rather than just wishing it true. I've had a lot of help though ;) much love Peace Corps.RIP Steve Jobs
